"From the very first "Arrgh!" to the end of Tim Sonefelt's Pirates of the Carolinas, we felt like pirates had certainly come to visit!  Our students enjoyed the engaging show which incorporated fun facts about North & South Carolina pirates using music, puppets, magic, & storytelling.  Tim has joined us for several years now with different shows & we always look forward to his performances. Well done, Tim!!!!. I'm sorry I didn't get pictures, I was laughing so hard I couldn't hold the camera still!"

Were pirates real?

Of course! But you knew that. In fact they ruled the waters off the North and South Carolina coasts for nearly 40 years! Some of the most famous pirates of all time have strong ties to our region.

Is this a Social Studies assembly or a Reading assembly?

Yes! Actually, it's both! I use different books and genres to cover the historical points discussed and encourage students to find out more on their own by reading. So yes, Pirates of the Carolinas is multi-disciplinary!

The Pirates of the Carolinas Assembly show: is a hilarious, 45 minute adventure back to the time of pirates filled with pirate facts and history. We also dispel some famous pirate myths along the way. Laugh out loud as you witness simple ways that music, puppets, magic, storytelling and humor can be used to encourage students to read more while learning about history!

Watch the entire student body become a part of the ship's crew and end up cheering for a treasure hunt in the library - all using the Dewey Decimal System as a Treasure Map. This 'treasure hunt' requires NO preparation on your part because the books are the treasure!

Kid Friendly Pirates?

Pirates have a very dark and sordid history. However, this program is tailored to be kid-friendly. Every second of the program is age-appropriate for Kindergarten through 5th Grade.  It's student tested and teacher approved! Take a look at what this Media Specialist said:
